Out of the sparks of several theatre careers arises Mixed Phoenix Theatre Group! The goal of Mixed Phoenix is to provide innovative theatre that integrates all aspects of the performing arts in order to challenge mainstream stereotypes and to reach a greater, more realistic truth of what it means to be an American. Since MPTG has a Native American heritage, we intend to dedicate ourselves to the creation of new multi-ethnic and multi-cultural works for the 21st Century.
The concept for Mixed Phoenix arose last spring during the very successful production of Carlisle, A Different Three Sisters, in which founders Danielle Soames and Ryan Victor Pierce acted. Realizing that there was an opportunity to explore an aspect of American culture that has been quite overlooked, a call was put out for multi-cultural plays. As a result, over the summer, a small group of individuals (Danielle, Ryan, Kristin Romano, Nancy McDoniel, and Richard Aven) have been pleased to meet, to read and to confer on over one hundred submissions. And we have finally narrowed down the scripts for our inaugural “Tuesdays in October MPTG Play Reading Series”!!!
We intend to open with three one-act plays and a celebration on October 7th at Bar on A (170 Avenue A, near 11th Street).. Please join us to see three incredible plays and graciously toast the birth of our new company with drinks!
